Your rights as a flexi worker
  • framework agreement stating the identity of both parties and the agreements on how the employer will call on the employee, the wage, a description of the kind of work you’ll be doing, … This framework agreement is to be signed before you actually start working your flexi job.
  • an employment contract:
    • If you'll be working for your employer for a longer period, you will receive a fixed-term employment contract, because every quarter it must be checked whether you still meet the conditions for being employed as a flexi-job employee. It is therefore not advisable to conclude an employment contract for a period longer than one quarter.
    • If you are working under one or more day contracts, then a verbal contract will do, and a written contract isn’t mandatory.
  • flexi-wage (including 7,67% flexi holiday pay) based on at least the sector scale that is applicable in the joint committee (paritair comité in Dutch) for the position you hold.
  • The wage may not exceed 150% of the minimum basic wage, unless something else has been agreed in a Collective Agreement (CAO in Dutch). This maximum wage ceiling includes all allowances, bonuses and benefits of any kind granted by the employer. Only meal vouchers may be possibly paid in addition.
  • You are entitled to all extras provided for in the labour law, including the Collective Agreements (CAO) of the relevant joint committee, such as an end-of-year bonus, a travel allowance, allowances for Sundays and public holidays, …
  • You don’t pay tax on your gross salary, provided that you remain within the annual limit of 18.440 euro (income in 2026). This means your gross wage equals your net wage. Through mycareer.be you can monitor your flexi salary counter.
  • Even if you are not paying taxes or social security contributions on your wage, you are still accruing social security rights (unemployment benefits, pension, holidays, …)
  • With your flexi job, you are accruing holiday entitlement. But you have to take them with your flexi job employer. When you take a holiday, you will not be paid, because you are already receiving holiday pay as part of your flexi wage.
  • the organisation’s work rules (arbeidsreglement in Dutch), with a.o. provisions on wellbeing at work
  • occupational accident insurance
  • guaranteed pay in the event of illness or accident according to the normal sectoral rules within which you are working
Working hours

You can work flexibly, such as evenings, Sundays and/or holidays, for at least 3 hours per day and not more than 11 hours per day. The framework for this are the agreements within the joint committee.

Contract termination

In the event of dismissal by an employer or resignation by the employee in a flexi job, the same notice periods apply as for a regular fixed-term employment contract, depending on your length of service.
