Overview of inspirations

Dancing Doctors

12 May 2026

Dance Doctors, a collaboration between the Lemmens Institute’s Arts Programme (Dance course) and the ‘Art for the Children’s Hospital’ Fund, gives children with long-term illnesses the chance to take control through dance. We sat down with Jennifer Regidor, choreographer and dance teacher at the Lemmens Institute, to discuss the progress, inspirations, impact and ambitions of the project. The project demonstrates that dance possesses a universal healing power that leaves no one unmoved.

In The Making: an introduction

12 May 2026

In the new monthly column In The Making, Yasaman Nozari, Iranian painter and writer, explores a topic currently resonating within the Flemish dance sector: an open call, a debate, a substantive question, and so on. Not merely journalistic or opinion-based, but striking a perfect balance between the two: carefully crafted, inquisitive pieces that trace a specific subject through its history, theory and practice. In Edition ‘Zero’, she introduces herself: who is she, what inspires her, what can we expect?

Gabrielle Johansson’s sources of inspiration

23 April 2026

Every month, we ask a dancer, choreographer or dance teacher who or what inspires them. This time, we spoke to Gabrielle Johansson (27), an art historian and founder of Vittra Pole Collective. Gabrielle is a jack-of-all-trades, combining pole dancing with elements of folk dance, ballet and Swedish folklore. Nature and sustainability are also central to her work.

A patchwork of creativity, collaboration and performance opportunities

13 April 2026

Gwen Hamerlynck (Compagnie J), Paola Rojas (Mestiza Dance Company) and Eefje Devulder (EDC Choreo Lab) are jointly organising Patchwork, an annual dance festival held across three venues that aims to provide young dancers and choreographers with opportunities to perform. In the run-up to the Ghent edition on 9 and 10 May, we sat down with these three powerhouse women to discuss their vision, the strength of their collaboration and their ambitions. The festival offers complete artistic freedom and focuses on substantive concepts rather than mere technical feats. In this way, they create a literal patchwork of stories.

A programme highlighting integrity, co-creation and safe space: curator Rafaela Sahyoun tells us more about Out of the Toolbox 2025

30 July 2025
