Dansstroom

Dansstroom invites non-professional dancers to immerse themselves in a dance practice of their own choosing. Through an open call, groups from all styles and genres are given the opportunity to spend an academic year exploring the repertoire or roots of their chosen dance practice in depth. Throughout the programme, they receive intensive guidance from a professional dance coach with expertise rooted in that particular practice.

The amateur dancers take the lead: they decide which works inspire them and want to explore. The programme culminates in a series of public presentations, where each group performs its work live, accompanied by a brief introduction that provides the audience with context.

Dansstroom is a collaboration between three Flemish organisations with a national remit: Danspunt (the support organisation for amateur dance in Flanders), STUK (arts centre, Leuven), and CEMPER (the centre of expertise for music and performing arts heritage). Together, they connect amateur arts, the professional arts sector, and cultural heritage.

The project is inspired by Danse en amateur et répertoire, a French initiative organised by the Centre National de la Danse (Pantin).

In school year 2025 – 2026, selected groups entered the studio with a dance coach and work with the repertoire in their own way. Together, they worked toward a show moment in STUK Leuven on April 25 and 26, 2026.
